An azure blue Moroccan sabra silk pillow cover, handwoven in Tazenakht by Amazigh weavers of the Anti-Atlas. The blue is deep and luminous — the color of a well at noon, of mountain shade in summer, of the glazed tiles of Fès courtyards. Scattered across the weave, small ivory stars hold the four directions. One of only two ever made.
Why this pillow is different
Most “cactus silk” pillows sold online are machine-woven rayon or viscose blends. This one is not. It is woven on a traditional low-warp loom from 100% sabra silk — a lustrous fiber spun from the agave cactus, prized in Morocco for its natural sheen and cool hand-feel. The fiber is washed in river water, dried on flat rooftops, and dyed with plants the weavers gather themselves. No synthetic shortcuts. No two covers alike.
The weave, read as a language
In Amazigh textile tradition, every motif is a sentence. The small X-shaped stars stitched across this pillow are the tazenakht stars — protective markers that, in the villages of the Anti-Atlas, are placed at the four corners of a home to guard it from ill winds. On this cover they are scattered freely, like a handful of salt thrown over the shoulder — a blessing made generous. The twisted silver cord along the edges and the small tassels at each corner are the signature of Tazenakht’s most careful hands: a finishing detail added only when the weaver has time to braid a margin around her thoughts.

How it sits in a room
Azure reads as a neutral in most interiors. Placed against a cream linen sofa, the pillow becomes a quiet focal point — the color that draws the eye without demanding it. On a deep-walnut leather chair, it cools the room. On a white bed, it reads like an open window in August. It layers well with terracotta, unbleached linen, aged brass, natural rattan, and deep burgundy. For a Mediterranean palette, pair it with a smaller olive-green or sand-ochre cushion. For a modern look, keep it alone on a bench of pale oak.
One of two — and why that matters
Only two of this exact pillow were ever woven: this one, and its twin. The weaver who made them, working in a cooperative above the town of Tazenakht, will not make another — the dye lot is finished, the warp is cut, the loom is re-threaded for the next piece. What you receive is numbered 01 of 02 or 02 of 02, accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity naming the weaver and the cooperative that supported her. A small paper, but it holds the whole story.

Frequently asked questions
Size: 19×18 in
Is sabra silk real silk?
Sabra silk — also called cactus silk or agave silk — is not silk from silkworms. It is a plant fiber spun from the leaves of the agave cactus, processed by hand in the Anti-Atlas region of Morocco. It has a natural sheen similar to silk, is cool to the touch, and is entirely vegan.
Will the color fade?
The indigo used here is a living dye. Over years of use, it may soften slightly toward a gentler blue — the way old denim does. To slow this, keep the pillow out of direct, continuous sunlight. Most owners find the aging adds character rather than takes it away.
Does the pillow come with an insert?
No — this is a cover only. We recommend a 20 × 20 in down or down-alternative insert for a full, generous silhouette. A 20 × 20 insert in an 19 × 18 cover gives the “hotel-finish” plump that flat inserts cannot.
How do I clean it?
Dry cleaning is recommended. If a small spot occurs, blot (do not rub) with a clean white cloth and cold water. Avoid detergents and never machine-wash: sabra silk is a living fiber and will felt or lose its sheen under agitation.
Can I order a matching pair?
Only if the twin (01 or 02 of 02) is still available — contact us before ordering and we will hold it for you for 24 hours. After both are sold, this exact piece cannot be reproduced.
Is it suitable for outdoor use?
No. Sabra silk is an indoor fiber. Humidity and direct sunlight will damage the weave and the natural dye.
About Tigemi
Tigemi works directly with small women’s weaving cooperatives across Morocco — in Tazenakht, Khenifra, and the Middle Atlas. Every piece we sell is named for its maker, numbered, and fairly paid at source. We buy small batches. When a piece is gone, it is gone.
Handwoven pieces are never identical. Slight variations in tone, tassel length, and motif placement are signatures of the artisan’s hand, not defects. Because every piece is woven by hand, exact dimensions may vary by up to 1 inch. This is one of the reasons each Tigemi pillow is truly one of a kind.
